Media coverage here.

Korvaa is a collaboration between synbio scientists, industrial designers, artists and filmmakers creating a headset made with microbial materials.

Each part of the headset is made using microbial materials with different properties. Fungal mycelia for foamy filler, fungi film to replace leather and microbial bio plastics for the hard parts. Synthetic spider silk was used to create the acoustic membrane.

The project is an experimental science collaboration which explores the deisgn and functionalities of novel bio based, microbially grown materials.

The headset will be displayed at the Fiskars Biennale 2019 exhibition and Helsinki Design Week 2019, Design Museum in the Kaj Franck Prize exhibition.
